1st Grade, Rome to Reformation Week 9: Eye, Jesus, Farewell Augustus

BIBLE We revised the Roman Road verses and also the NT books. Then we went on the memorize Romans 12:1-2 this week. Lil Sis memorized Proverbs 10:1 A wise son makes his father glad. But a foolish son brings sorrow to his mother. We read on Jesus' life and teachings. We wrote a summary on his life. When we read on the temptation of Jesus we contrasted his temptation and the temptation of Adam. HISTORY We learnt about the death of Augustus Caesar, the Julio-Claudius Dynasty and the four emperors following Augustus Caesar. We read chapters 15-17 of Bronze Bow. LANGUAGE The older kids continued on Rod and Staff English. Lil Sis worked on her phonics, bible books and bible notebook This girl really loves crafts so I can see the Bible Notebook is going to be so fun for her. 1st Grade, Rome to Reformation Week 8: Roman Soldier, Skin, Germanic tribes

BIBLE We revised the Roman Road verses and also the NT books. Then we went on the memorize Romans 12:1 this week. Lil Sis did a revision on her verses. Also we read on the account of John the Baptist and also Jesus as a boy. HISTORY We learnt about the Roman Soldiers and I used this worksheet to go further on the topic. We also talked about death of Herod and the migration of the Germanic Tribes We read the Bronze Bow. LANGUAGE The older kids continued on Rod and Staff English. For Lil Sis, we read more phonic books from here And we started the Bible Reader!! This is the first child I actually had to go through the word list BEFORE reading the reader. And I found MFW really prepared her well to this stage. My first two children were reading well at this point, whereby my third is the only one who went through MFW K and 1st and only learning the words they taught. 1st Grade, Rome to Reformation Week 7: Jesus Born, Ear

BIBLE This week we memorized verses for the Roman Road to Salvation. I thought this will be quite a good tool for them, since we were already memorizing some Roman verses. We did Rom 3:23, 6:23, 5:8 and 10:9-10 Lil Sis memorized Proverbs 10:19   Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut. We also started to read on the account of Jesus' birth and life from the gospels. HISTORY We learnt about Augustus Caesar as the Emperor and also the philosophers. We put up the timeline for Jesus' birth and we talked about why it is 5 B.C. and not 1 A.D. And we made a dessert for Roman Road! =) We adapted the recipe from here The Sand Layer (crushed graham crackers) Mortar and rocks.
