Exploration to 1850 WEEK 2: Dutch, Spanish Explorations

Bible

We began the memorization of James! This week we did James 1:1-4.

Daddy came on board with us and we revised the verses everyday at Family Bible Time after dinner. It was really good!

History

We learnt about the Dutch Revolt, Spanish exploration of South America, and Mary, Queen of Scots

For my middle-schooler, he had to do more notebook pages (and more Math), while others did oral narrations. He also read more about Sir Walter Raleigh.

Got this globe at the homeschool conference. Thank you, Alpha Omega! And we used it as we read about history.

Big Sis and Lil Sis really enjoyed "American Pioneers and Patriots". We also read the North American Indians.

We made shortbread and had tea!

This recipe, though extremely vague for a recipe, is delicious!

We read this interesting story while talking about Netherlands.

Language

We started with Rod and Staff English this week. We are using English 2,4,6. This is Lil Sis doing the book first time. She needed more help with the reading but she is doing really good!!

We also started with Mandarin Chinese this week.

Science

We learnt about vascular plants and looked for them.

We talked about non-vascular plants and how they soak up water like a napkin.

Instead of Pokemon Go (no, we are not into that), we went in search of the different plants on our nature walk in this city.

We are using Artistic Pursuits K-3 (Book 2) this year.

For the first project, we painted buildings in our neighborhood like Cimabue(Chee mah Boo eh)

Online Resources: Sesame Street Games

I love the Sesame Street Games ...I think they are the best for preschoolers. They teach important concepts, at the same time, making computer skills real easy. For eg, there is no "click and drag"...that's hard for them...there's "click" "move" "click". There are some games Ian really likes...(click on photo for the games) That's the Wheels on the Bus song (you press the keys foe interactive movements) Patterns. Seasons. Fun for the kids. Walking the dogs...numbers. This is alltime favorite. First you make a pitcher of lemonade. Then depending on how many monsters come, you click however many cups. I love it!

Science 2015/2016: Human Body Recap

We really had fun learning about the Human Body this year. I thought it would be meaningful to consolidate our learning. We enjoyed the Body Book more than I thought we would. I did do most of the cutting though. We also enjoyed the different videos we watched and the experiments. I think this is the most successful science year yet.
